The item for sale is 50 sets of Viewmaster Reels for use with any of the various types of View-Masters produced from the 1930s through . The classic toy, View-Master, was first introduced at the 1939 New York World s Fair as a device for viewing seven 3-D images (also known as stereo images) on a round paper disc: It was intended as an alternative to the scenic postcard, and was originally sold at photography shops, stationery stores and scenic attraction gift shops. The main subjects of View-Master reels were Carlsbad Caverns and the Grand Canyon. In the 1940s, the US military used View-Masters for army training, and in 1951, Tru-Vue was bought by View-Master, which thereby acquired the licensing rights to cartoons produced by Walt Disney Studios. Initially the View-Masters were made of bakelite, but in the 1960s they were replaced by plastic versions, and subsequent developments included light illumination and sound. Yet in all the varied developments of the actual Viewer, in all the 25 Models of viewmasters, the reels are able to be used in any model.
